The Pickup Truck You've Been Waiting for: The 2020 Jeep Gladiator
Jeep is a beloved brand with a rich legacy of rugged utility vehicles, including pickup trucks like the Jeep Comanche of the eighties and nineties and the Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler that came before it. Jeep enthusiasts and off-roaders who love the utility of a pickup truck have been clamoring for a new Jeep pickup ever since.
Well, it's finally (almost) here. The new Jeep Gladiator pickup is arriving as a 2020 model this Spring. Although many expected the new Jeep pickup to be a Wrangler with a bed, it appears that the Jeep Gladiator has much more to offer.
The 2020 Gladiator is more than capable on and off the road, and it comes with a fairly impressive features list to boot, including pickup truck essentials and Jeep hallmarks. The Gladiator comes in Sport, Sport S, Overland, and Rubicon trim levels, and colors include Bright White, Firecracker Red, Black, Billet Silver Metallic, Gobi Brown, Punk'n Metallic Orange, Sting Gray, Hydro Blue, Gator Green, and Granite Crystal Gray.
Jeep Gladiator Power and Performance
The new Gladiator is shaping up to be a real mover and shaker in the mid-size pickup market, thanks in part to a powerful standard V6 motor. The 2020 Jeep Gladiator brings in the legendary 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, making 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Paired with your choice of six-speed stick or eight-speed auto, the Gladiator is set to be one potent pickup.
The Pentastar is currently the only engine option, but the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 motor, and other Jeep powerplants, could be on their way in future models of the Gladiator.
The Jeep Gladiator comes with iconic Jeep four-wheel-drive technologies, including the Command-Trac 4x4 system on Sport, Sport S, and Overland models, and Rock-Trac 4x4 tech on Rubicon models. The Rubicon is the most off-road centric of the bunch, bringing standard Dana 44 axles, Tru-Lok differentials, heavy skid plates, tow hooks, all-terrain tires, and off-road shocks.
Pickup Truck Utility
The Gladiator is much more than an off-roader--it's a true pickup in its own right. The Gladiator offers best-in-class 4x4 towing with a rating of 7,650 pounds and best-in-class 4x4 payload with a rating of 1,600 pounds. It'll be a welcome addition to the jobsite.
Where the Gladiator really beats out the rest is off the road. The new Jeep truck has impressive approach, breakover, and departure angles, as well as a 30-inch water ford depth and an 11-inch ground clearance.
The Gladiator Build
The Jeep Gladiator is built off of the Wrangler Unlimited, featuring a classic Jeep look with four doors and an extended bed. Its wheelbase is about twenty inches longer than the Wrangler, which gives it more practicality without adversely affecting its maneuverability on and off the road. A five-foot bed offers 35.5 cubic-feet of cargo capacity, giving you plenty of space for gear, materials, or ATVs.
Inside the Gladiator
The Jeep Gladiator comes equipped with a range of modern safety, infotainment, and comfort features, as well as plenty of utilitarian features unique to Jeep. The cab has a drain plug for easy cleaning, and the roof and doors are removable in true Jeep fashion. The windshield folds down as well.
The 8.4-inch Uconnect system available on the Gladiator offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility, satellite navigation, and even a removable Bluetooth speaker to take on your adventures.
A Full Safety Suite
Safety systems are sometimes overlooked in utility and off-road vehicles, but the Jeep Gladiator is available with a complete collection that includes over 80 safety features, like a Blind-Spot Monitoring system, a front-facing off-road cam, a Rear Cross Path Detection system, and an Adaptive Cruise Control system.
Is the Jeep Gladiator Worthy of the Hype?
We believe it is. The 2020 Jeep Gladiator pickup brings you a lot of things other midsize pickups simply don't, like commanding off-road ability and a uniquely thrilling fun factor. We're confident the new 2020 Jeep Gladiator will be an absolute hit all across the country.
